SCUM History
In the old and nearly forgotten days of Vanilla, Ashura from Myst and Ajoryen from Scarlet Knights went with a befriended guild to Zul’Gurub and Molten Core to face both Hakkar and Ragnaros. It was within these areas of grave peril that they found each other and decided that united they could also face the evil masters of the jungle and the depths. An alliance between these guilds was born and soon they ventured out into the jungle that was Zul’Gurub. However, to conquer the depths of Molten Core, they needed more people and thus grew the alliance with both Uskoci and Castus Equites Simius. What a glorious day it was for the Alliance, for the raiding alliance with the name "S.C.U.M." was born!
However, as The Burning Crusade hit the shelves, both Uskoci and Scarlet Knights had grown beyond the SCUM-alliance and decided to venture on alone. Many members of Scarlet Knights decided they were better of in SCUM and joined either Myst or Castus Equites Simius.
Then came the Wrath of the Lich King and the SCUM-alliance got stuck trying to defeat the mighty bosses in 25-man raids. They were faced with too many members for 10-man raids, but not enough for 25-man raids. After a long struggle they experienced that the alliance of guilds was heading for its end. In a last attempt to prevent that, the officers strengthened the bond between both guilds. In september 2009 they finally united in the One Guild that is now known as SCUM.
With that, SCUM is the oldest remaining guild alliance on Kor'gall, now united in a single guild.
I. SCUM Guildranks
SCUM has been a social and raiding alliance for years, all the while successfully maintaining a casual atmosphere. We welcome people both for social as for raiding intentions. While this has given SCUM its unique atmosphere, it has also given the officers a hard time to keep track of it all. So it was decided to introduce the SCUM-ranking system.
Of course everyone is entitled to being occupied in another way. At the same time however your application is not forgotten once you passed your trial. When you announce in your application that you are available for raiding 3 nights a week, then we expect you to be this active. Officers will not hesitate to demote you or to kick you out of the guild whenever they notice you don’t live up to your promises.
I.1 Trials
The lowest of the lowest, but therefore not unwanted. They are the wannabe’s, the tryouts, the apprentices to SCUM. Willing to be part of the alliance, but undecided whether they fit in or not. Trials stay average 3 weeks in this rank. To pass a trial you will have to show the officers motivation to come to our raids and do the best of your and your chars ability during those raids. Exceptions are the ones who applied to SCUM purely for social purpose, real life friends and family.
I. 2 Alts and Pacifists
Our social SCUMmies! They have joined SCUM because of friendship, family or just for the fun of it all. The alts of our members that wish not to be separated from the guild while not on their main-character. Any reason is good for them to be part of SCUM.
The major occupation of these people is playing the game, doing instances, player-versus-player, or just for chatting and fun. They are standard not invited for raids, but can be added to the raid list by requesting it from officers. However, if enough sign ups are available, they will be queued.
I. 3 Hooligans and Terrorists
Our raiding core, the SCUMmies we expect most from. Every raider is expected to regularly sign up for raids, at least once a week. We are however human beings, so we accept that there may be moments where you are unable to sign up. Don’t be afraid to mention it to the officers if it happens.
The difference between hooligans and terrorists lies in their goals. Terrorists are the very active, best-geared and very skilled raiders that are willing to spend an entire evening on one boss, just for the sake of perfecting SCUM-tactics. They don’t mind humongous repair costs, but are willing to stress their character to the ultimate limit to reach just that little extra that is needed for a first time kill. They are the people that when everything seems lost, still know where to find points for improvement. In short: they are our progress-raiders.
Hooligans are the casual raiders. The people who wish to join raids, but also want to see results. They will not spend the entire evening on one boss, but shall switch bosses when they it seems impossible. They are not perfectly geared yet, but need more raids for becoming the uber-raider with the best possible gear.
I.4 The Officers and F.I.P's
FIP’s (or Feckin' Important Person) are the SCUMmies that in time evolved into a piece of the furniture, and are ex-Officers or they fulfilled other important roles in SCUM-management. Nowadays they will advise and help out the officers when needed.
The Officers are the true power in SCUM who keep the guild running. They add raids to the calendar, create the raids and instruct people on what to do. They decide whether a trial is an addition to SCUM or not. If ever there are issues in the guild, they will be the ones to solve them.
The current Officer-pool exists of the following people:
- Staganov - Guild Master
- Ajoryen
- Stranding
- Rassa
- Cléavage
- Rikrik
- Beautii
They are assisted by these F.I.P.'s: Maui, Arwing, Paggi, Puffymuffins
II. Rules and Etiquette
II.1 Social Guidelines
Needless to say we expect every SCUM-member to stay in line with the World of Warcraft code of behaviour. We expect our members to act as mature human beings. Always remember that the person at the other end of the line is also a human being. There is never a need to be rude, insulting or whatsoever. Also keep in mind that, wherever you go, you bear the SCUM-tag. Even if you don’t want it, you still represent the guild. Everything you do, say or don’t do, will have its effect on the guild reputation.
If any violation to this code is noticed, officers will act. However, officers are not always present. If ever something happens: screenshot it and post it on the forum. Officers will act accordingly.
We expect people to behave in a mature way and treat other players like they themselves want to be treated. Keywords are: friendlyness, willingness to help eachother, a positive attitude and mutual respect for oneanother.
II.2 Raiding Guidelines
PUGs
SCUM is a casual progress raiding guild, and therefore we will always have Raid instances that we are focussing on and are trying to progress in. This content is not open for PUG.
If you can not join any raid whatsoever during the week, you are free to PUG this raid on Tuesday.
Signing for Raids
SCUM uses the in-game raid calendar to organise their raids. Everyone except for pacifists and alts are invited to these raids. If a pacifist wishes to obtain invites for raids aswell, he/she can contact the officers and will be added to the raidlist.
Aside from in-game, you can also reach the in-game calendar by logging into the WOW-armory with your Battlenet-account and go to your specific raiding character. In the “calendar”-section you will get the possibility to sign up as well.
Keep in mind that the raid on the planner isn't always an indication of where we are going. It can be 10 or 25 according to the sign-ups. This will be decided by the officers before the start of the raid and announced before inviting. It is not appreciated to spam or ask for invites. If you are in the raid, you will receive an invite. If not, you won’t. Officers will announce when invites start in guildchat.
Teamspeak
For communication during raids, SCUM uses Teamspeak, version 2.0. If you have problems with TS ask on the forums for help. If you are uncertain whether you have the correct Teamspeak client, or you don't know where to download it, you can download the official free Teamspeak2 client here: Get it here
The use of Teamspeak is MANDATORY. However, you will only use Teamspeak for listening to the raidleaders. If need be, the raidleaders will point out when commenting is allowed.
Addons
SCUM uses a handful of addons to ensure we get the maximum out of our raidprogress. The use of these add-ons is MANDATORY. Addons can be found on Curse
- Omen threat meter
- Deadly Boss Mods (or BigWigs Boss Mods, or Deus Vox Encounters)
- Ora2
- ZOMGbuffs
II.3 Raiding Rules
Preparation
1. Be on time, that means 15 min before the raid start at the latest!
If you think you might be running a bit late or can't come at all, please post it on forums with reasons why. If we haven't read any reasons 5 min before the raid, you are automatically queued and will receive a no-show note in Officer chat. No-shows are bad, we do not like them.
2. Always have plenty of Flasks. Our raids last 3 hours, so bring at least 3.
They are not expensive, and there are plenty of SCUM-members with Alchemy who can make them for you.
3. Always bring a stack of 20 buff-food.
4. If you signed, move your character to the assigned Raid instance at least 5 minutes before raid start. If your HS is on CD, you should travel. Don't let 24 other SCUM-members wait for you.
5. Progress-raids will be filled up with the following priority:
Officer/Terrorist -> Hooligan -> Trial -> Pacifist -> Alt
6. Farm-raids will be filled up with the following priority:
Officer/Terrorist/Hooligan -> Trial -> Pacifist -> Alt
II.4 During the Raid
1. Always stay nice and social, we all want to have a fun and cool epic raid. We don't want any fights or discussions. Some raids are better than others. Don't start whining on wipes. Just keeping each other motivated works way better.
2. Be focused!!! Don't put any music on, don’t watch TV. During a raid we expect full focus as long as the raid lasts. You are raiding with other people. If you are f*cking around, you're also wasting at least 9 other people's time.
3. Always stay behind the tanks. This way it’s impossible to pull any mobs. If ever there is the need for a countdown, listen careful on TS until the person counts down from 5..4..3..2..1..GO!
4. Always buff up when everyone is at the boss or mob spot. Don't waste time before buffing, make an agreement with your class partners about who does what at the start of the raid.
5. Watch their own buffs, flasks and food. If you can tie your own shoelaces, you can also watch your own buffs. It's no rocket science.
6. You have a suggestion for the raid?
Your suggestion might be valuable, but officers come prepared. Inform an officer about it, don't whine or spam raid chat with it. If it's a good idea, the officers will listen.
II.5 Looting
10-man raids:
When the item is announced, everybody may roll. However, Main-spec gets priority over Off-spec. This means that if an OS rolls higher then a MS, the MS gets the item.
- Main spec: /roll 100
- Off spec: /roll 50
25-man raids:
We use the Me0-system. When the item is announced, everyone is allowed to /roll 100 for it. However, if you win an item, you will be put on Me1 in stead of Me0. Obviously, Me0 gets priority over Me1.
Only officers, terrorists and hooligans are allowed to roll on Marks.
Progress raids:
Exceptionally, for progress-raids, officers may decide to donate the loot without allowing people to roll for it. This is to ensure that our most active members are also the best geared.
signed, The Officers of SCUM
